Inauguration of first SES office in Chennai, India
On 8 April 2025, H.E. Mrs. Peggy Frantzen, and the leadership of Luxembourg-headquartered SES inaugurated the first office of the company in Chennai, India. The event simultaneously marked the 40th anniversary of operations of SES, a global leading service provider of satellite communications.
Participants from SES at the event included the CEO, Mr. Adel Al Saleh, the Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Milton Torres, and the Interim Managing Director of SES India, Mr. Vikas Malik. The event itself was inaugurated by the Minister of IT and Digital Services of the State Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan. The Honorary Consul of Luxembourg in Chennai, Mr. Seturaman Mahalingam, was also present.
In his address, Mr. Al Saleh said that India was a natural place for SES to open up an office, given the long-standing cooperation of SES and India. He added that the decision to locate the new offices in Chennai was driven by the access to talent and expertise, infrastructure, universities, and a favourable regulatory environment provided by the State Government.
The Ambassador of Luxembourg to India, H.E. Mrs. Peggy Frantzen underscored that SES is a success story “Made in Luxembourg”. She highlighted the impressive journey of SES, which was established in the 1980s with the support of the Luxembourg Government with the goal of diversifying the economy, to now being among the biggest satellite communication providers in the world. The Ambassador also emphasized that Luxembourg was a pioneer in the space sector thanks to SES, and more recently through its initiatives such as the development of a legislative framework for the exploration and utilisation of space resources, hosting the headquarters of European Space Resources Innovation Centre (ESRIC), establishing a Master’s program in Space Technologies and Business at the University of Luxembourg and joining the Artemis Accords.
