The Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, H.E. Mr. Xavier Bettel, undertook a working visit to India in New Delhi from 16-18 March 2025.
During his visit, Minister Bettel held a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, the Indian Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S Jaishankar and also had interaction with some industry leaders.
These discussions provided an opportunity to examine bilateral relations between Luxembourg and India and to discuss key international and regional developments.
"Luxembourg and India enjoy excellent bilateral relations, and I am delighted to have been able to discuss the deepening of our political and economic ties with my Indian counterparts, particularly in the areas of finance, steel, trade, and ICT," emphasized Minister Bettel.
Xavier Bettel further participated in the multilateral conference "Raisina Dialogue" organised by Indian thinktank Observer Research Foundation (ORF), which annually brings together representatives of civil society, economic stakeholders, journalists, and senior Indian and foreign dignitaries to discuss key global geopolitical and geoeconomic issues.
The conference provided an opportunity for Minister Bettel to engage informally with many of his counterparts and stakeholders from civil society, the private sector, and academia. In this context, Minister Bettel stated: "In a world marked by shifting alliances, growing tensions and sometimes mistrust, it is crucial to seek open and frank dialogue with our partners around the world. This is essential to ensure mutual understanding and a better future for all."
During a panel discussion on the EU's role in a multipolar world marked by shifting alliances, Minister Bettel emphasized that Europe must assert its role by investing in its own security, technology, and infrastructure development, while remaining true to its core values and continuing to engage with its partners globally.
Finally, Minister Bettel took part in an event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), one of India's two major chambers of commerce, which allowed him to showcase the strengths of the Luxembourg economy in the presence of numerous representatives from the private sector.
