Luxembourg company Calumite SA inaugurates its first facility in Asia in Bharuch, Gujarat

On 17 April, the Luxembourg Ambassador to India, H.E. Mrs. Peggy Frantzen, accompanied by the Economic Advisor of the Luxembourg Embassy in Delhi, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new manufacturing facility of Luxembourg based Calumite S.A near Bharuch, in Gujarat. The new plant in India is also the first manufacturing facility of Calumite S.A. in Asia.

The festive inauguration took place in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Calumite S.A., Mr. Robert Lindemann-Berk who was accompanied by the Board of Directors, Mr. John Hopkins and Mr. David Hopkins, as well as the General Manager, Mr. Patrick Kemp.

 

The Luxembourg based company produces Calumite®, a sustainable raw material, out of blast furnace slag. Calumite® is used in the circular economy to produce better quality glass in a more environment friendly way through lower energy consumption & less CO2 emissions. The raw material produced by the company are used in various forms of glass such as Container glass, Float glass and Fiber glass. 

 

Since 1980, Calumite S.A. based in Luxembourg produces Calumite®. In 1991, Calumite S.A. invested into a new plant to increase capacity and to achieve new environmental standards and since 1992, Calumite S.A. has operated Quality Management Systems in accordance with ISO 9001. Over the years, Calumite S.A. also expanded its presence to the USA, Spain and Czech Republic.


The start of operations of Calumite S.A. in India starts a new chapter of deepening Luxembourg – India cooperation in the manufacturing sector and further strengthening of Luxembourg - India  economic relations.
