Official visit of Smt. Meira Kumar, Speaker of the Lower House of the Indian Parliament, to Luxembourg

From the 10th to the 13th of June 2010, Smt. Meira Kumar, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Lower House of the Indian Parliament, carried out an official trip to Luxembourg.

Within the framework of this visit, Mrs. Meira Kumar, accompanied by an Indian delegation, had a meeting on the 10th of June 2010 with Mrs. Françoise Hetto-Gasch, Minister of Small and Medium Sized businesses, Tourism and of Equal Opportunities. The talks mainly centered around the economic relations between the two countries, promotion of tourism, and politics in the matter of equal opportunities to all.

On 11th June, she had a meeting with the Prime Minister Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker. The discussions mainly centered around bilateral relations, relations between the European Union and India as well as the regional political situation in South Asia. Questions of current international politics also figured among the topics to be discussed.

Mrs. Kumar paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the Luxembourg Parliament, Mr. Laurent Mosar.

A joint meeting with the members of the Bureau and the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Immigration was also organized.

Over lunch and dinner, she also met with the Honorable Members of Parliament coming from the three different districts of Luxembourg: Luxembourg district, Diekirch District and Grevenmacher District.

Mrs. Kumar was also received by His Royal Highness, the Grand Duke Henri of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

A cultural visit was also organized for Mrs. Kumar and the Indian delegation accompanying her.
