Published Friday June 18 2021

Luxembourg’s new High Performance Computer (HPC) MeluXina was inaugurated on 7 June 2021.

Ranked among the top 30 supercomputers in the world, MeluXina has been designed to meet business needs and is available for use by start-ups and SMEs as well as large international groups.

The inauguration of MeluXina, which took place in the presence of H.R.H. the Grand Duke and the Luxembourg Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Xavier Bettel, is a big step forward towards realising Luxembourg’s ambition of becoming a leading data economy.

As stated by Prime Minister Bettel during the inauguration ceremony “What is happening here today is not a revolution, but a logical continuation for the economic development of a country that has always innovated”.

After having recalled that MeluXina is part of the European HPC network kicked off five years ago by Luxembourg and three other EU member states, the Minister of the Economy Mr. Franz Fayot added “We realised that if we wanted to close the technology gap between the EU and the rest of the world, we needed a network of European supercomputers,” and hence “Launching MeluXina is an important milestone.”
