First Visit of the Minister of Foreign And European Affairs of Luxembourg, H.E. Mr. Jean Asselborn to Nepal

Following the invitation from the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, H.E. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, H.E. Mr. Jean Asselborn, visited Kathmandu for an official visit from 29 to 30 January 2020. Visiting Nepal in the context of the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Minister Asselborn had a meeting followed by a working lunch on January 29 with his counterpart, Minister Kumar Gyawali. During his visit, Minister Asselborn was also received by the Honourable Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr. Khadga Prasada Oli, to discuss the bilateral relations. The two ministers highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the field of development cooperation as many NGOs from Luxembourg are active throughout Nepal since more than 3 decades. 

The ministers also highlighted potential areas of cooperation and discussed the relations between the European Union and Nepal, as well as questions of education, peace and stability. They also discussed connectivity in Asia as well as the latest regional and international developments. In the presence of representatives of the Government of Nepal and members of the diplomatic and consular corps, Minister Asselborn warmly welcomed the guests at a reception, hosted by Ambassador Jean Claude Kugener, which marked the Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Nepal in 1975.
