Creation of the Belgian-Luxembourg Business Association in New Delhi

Published Tuesday October 13 2009

It is with great pleasure that the Embassy announces the creation of the Belgian-Luxembourg Business Association (BLBA) in New Delhi. On September 29th, 2009, the annual general assembly of the former Belgian Business Association (BBA) unanimously approved the resolution to expand the BBA into the BLBA. Mr. André Biever from the Embassy of Luxembourg in New Delhi was invited to the AGM as an observer. After the vote, he was asked to address a brief thanksgiving speech for the support received for the initiative.

The speakers emphasized that Belgium and Luxembourg share the same business associations in a vast majority of places. This reflects the fact that Luxembourg and Belgium share a long history of close economic cooperation, most notably in the framework of the Belgian-Luxembourg Economic Union. In Mumbai, this is already reflected in the functioning of the “Indo-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and Industry”. It is of mutual benefit to have a similar association in New Delhi in order to facilitate cross-industry information and networking.

The website of the former Belgium Business Association (BBA) will be updated to include elements on Luxembourg and will receive a new logo. Other formalities to finalize the merger are expected to be finalized by the beginning of 2010.

The association of Luxembourg with the BBA is yet another step to increase the Grand Duchy’s presence in India, with a special focus on strengthening the economic ties. The next step is to encourage all Luxembourg companies in New Delhi and throughout India, as well as Indian companies with interests in Luxembourg, to become active members of the BLBA.
