Luxembourg NGOs active in India
Luxembourg financially supports the work of nine Luxembourg NGOs active in India mostly in the fields of health, education and social work (especially promotion of women and children). For the period of 2005-2011 a total financial contribution of more than 5.5 million euros is foreseen in that respect.
The nine Luxembourg NGOs with programmes in India are following : Aide à l’Enfance de l’Inde a.s.b.l., Action Solidarité Tiers Monde a.s.b.l., Indesch Patenschaften a.s.b.l., Les Amis du Tibet a.s.b.l., ECPAT Luxembourg a.s.b.l. et Pharmaciens sans frontières a.s.b.l.. Œuvre diocésaine Bridderlech Deelen a.s.b.l., Fondation luxembourgeoise Raoul Follereau , Fondation Caritas Luxembourg.
In the field of humanitarian aid, the Luxembourg government financially supports three Luxembourg NGOs (Fondation Caritas Luxembourg, Aide à l’Enfance de l’Inde, Indesch Patenschaften). All are active in the context of post-tsunami aid in South India and aid to flood-affected areas throughout India. Total contributions by the Luxembourg government for aid to tsunami and flood victims in India was more then 1.5 million euros EUR for the period 2005-2008.
The Embassy of Luxembourg in New Delhi also directly manages a limited budget to support local projects in the field of health and social work. In 2007-2008 these funds have been mostly used for the donation of WHO-conform blood bank refrigerators to Red Cross blood banks.
Development cooperation and humanitarian aid are considered high priority by the Luxembourg government. On a per capita basis Luxembourg has reached the top ranks amongst developed nations. About 0,9% of its GDP is given for development programs which puts the country among the world’s most advanced. The ambitious goal of 1% set by the Government is to be achieved within the next two to three years.
