Luxembourg invites Indian companies

NEW DELHI, 11 JAN: The visiting Luxembourg minister for economy and foreign trade, Mr Jeannot Krecke, has invited Indian companies to forge partnerships with Luxembourg companies. “We are the masters of logistics, offering unparalleled access to the European markets and beyond. We are a gateway, serving as hubs for companies starting operations in Europe. Our stable social and regulatory environment makes for an ideal and predictable headquarter for your business. An encouraging tax system and a wide network of non-double taxation agreements make for an efficient operation of multinational activities,” Mr Krecke said.
Addressing a seminar on ‘India-Luxembourg: A Joint Venture for Mutual Benefit’ organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) here today, Mr Krecke said: “I fail to see measures countering the reckless risk-taking and gambling real money on virtual financial products. I am disappointed to see that the only tangible effect of G20 has been to launch a campaign against fiscal competition. It is unfortunate to see that quite a few governments who spend a great deal of money on countering the financial crisis and dealing with the effects of recession are only thinking of getting back the money ~ and preferably from somebody else,” he said.
Mr Krecke said ideally national governments would have to address the underlying reasons for the mess. Unfortunately, “over the past few weeks we have seen that there is not much that is being done” he lamented.
Responding to the observations made by Mr OP Lohia, Ficci executive committee member and managing director of Indo Rama Synthetics, the Luxembourg minister said the Luxembourg government was determined to support the country’s economy in its reform process. “We will invest in education, infrastructure and innovation in order to help our companies gain markets at home and abroad.”
The seminar was also addressed by Mr Marc Courte, Ambassador of Luxembourg in India; and Mr Robert Dennewald, vice-president, Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg.
